Dental Sedation

How many of your friends and relatives are self conscious of their smile or are in chronic pain due to fear of the dentist? I meet people daily with this problem. The dental profession is not doing the best it can to educate the public on this issue. Nitrous oxide gas, oral sedatives and intravenous sedatives are available now, and can eliminate the "stressfull and Bad" dental experience. Though oral sedatives can yield some degree of amnesia, the intravenous route will most definitely eliminate any recollection of the procedure, while not adversely affecting the protective reflexes that we all have.

Why are patients not asking for these services regularly? Why aren't dentists offering these services regularly? Is it the fear of needles? Is it the fear of the unknown?
